Literary Translator
Alice Banks is a literary translator working from Spanish and French into English.

I’m Alice and I’m a literary translator working from Spanish and French into English. I also work with creative and academic texts, and have experience in proofreading and copy editing.
After graduating from the MA in Literary Translation at the University of East Anglia in 2020, I moved to Madrid, the city I now call home.
I have translated writers such as Elizabeth Duval, Ali Zamir, Almudena Grandes, Raquel Delgado, Cristina Araújo Gámir, and Lucía Alba Martínez. My translation of Anne Sénès’ Double Room was published with Orenda Books in June 2025, and most recently, my co-translation of Lara Moreno’s The City was published with Open Letter Books in May 2026.
My work has been published in journals including Latin American Literature Today, Asymptote, minor literature[s], and The Los Angeles Review.
At the start of my career I worked for several years as Editorial Assistant for The European Literature Network and Fum d’Estampa Press where I gained an in-depth knowledge of both the book and magazine publishing world. I have also worked as an in-house translator for Hablemos, escritoras.
As well as literary, creative, and academic translation from French and Spanish into English, I also offer proofreading and copy editing services, and reader’s reports for French and Spanish language books.

“In Zamir’s French, the language features rare words and is linguistically fascinating, traits that Alice Banks’ superb translation also possesses.”
