Literary Translator
Alice Banks is a literary translator from Spanish and French into English.

I’m Alice and I’m a literary translator working from Spanish and French into English. I also work with creative and academic texts, and have experience in proofreading and copy editing.
After graduating from the MA in Literary Translation at the University of East Anglia I moved to Madrid, the city I now call home.
I have translated writers such as Elizabeth Duval, Ali Zamir, Almudena Grandes, Lara Moreno, Raquel Delgado, Cristina Araújo Gámir, and Lucía Alba Martínez. My latest full length translation of Anne Sénès’ Double Room was published with Orenda Books in June 2025, and a co-translation of Lara Moreno’s The City, will be published with Open Letter Books in early 2026.
My work has been published in journals including Latin American Literature Today, Asymptote, minor literature[s], and The Los Angeles Review. I also work as Editorial Assistant for The European Literature Network and an in-house translator for Hablemos, escritoras.
As well as literary, creative, and academic translation from French and Spanish into English, I also offer proofreading and copy editing services, and reader’s reports for French and Spanish language books.

“In Zamir’s French, the language features rare words and is linguistically fascinating, traits that Alice Banks’s superb translation also possesses.”
Areeb Ahmad, Asymptote
